Adolescence' Shatters Records: First Streaming Show to Crown UK TV Ratings
Washington D.C., March 25 (ANI): The popular Netflix drama ' Adolescence has created history by securing the number one position in the UK’s weekly TV ratings, making it the first streaming show to do so, as reported by Variety.
As per the official statistics provided by the Broadcasters Audience Research Board (BARB), the program surpassed well-known conventional television shows such as 'The Apprentice' and 'Death in Paradise,' according to reports by Variety.
The first episode of Adolescence attracted 6.45 million viewers during its first week, surpassing the former UK streaming record of 6.3 million set by Netflix 'S Fool Me Once in January 2024.
Adolescence is a British crime drama miniseries developed by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, with direction from Philip Barantini.
The four-part series revolves around the detention of a 13-year-old student named Jamie Miller, portrayed by Owen Cooper The show revolves around an individual suspected of killing a fellow female student. A key aspect that elevates this series is its distinctive filming technique where every episode is shot in one unbroken sequence.
Graham, one of the creators of the series, takes on the role of Eddie Miller, who is the father of the alleged Jamie Miller.
The series premiered on Netflix On March 13, it has garnered extensive praise for its writing, direction, and acting.
Earlier, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also praised the series and said he watched it with his own teenage children. He also backed the idea of the crime drama being shown in the UK Parliament and in government schools. (ANI)
