From Supporting Role to Star: Government Releases AI-Generated Studio Ghibli Style Pics of PM Modi
New Delhi [India], March 29 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has joined the popular Studio Ghibli-inspired art trend, with the Union government recently sharing an impressive set of AI-created portraits that recast significant moments from his time in office in the renowned Japanese animation style.
On Friday, the government posted on its X account a collection of images accompanied by a caption stating, "Not just the main character; he embodies the entire narrative. Discover New India through the art style of Studio Ghibli."
These creations turned significant moments from PM Modi's political journey into ethereal, soft-hued images evocative of the legendary works by animation maestro Hayao Miyazaki.
The exhibit featured AI-generated visuals of Modi, including depictions of his interactions with global heads of state such as U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron. Additional images portrayed him wearing an Indian Army uniform, confidently clutching the national flag, and posing next to the historical 'Sengol' staff, which was installed in the newly inaugurated Parliament building in 2023.
An AI-created image depicted his flight in a Tejas Twin Seater Lightweight Fighter Aircraft, whereas another showcased him alongside a Vande Bharat train. Additionally, the sequence featured photographs from his trip to the Maldives and his involvement in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan sanitation initiative, all within this creative set.

A Congress party leader, Shashi Tharoor, joined the trend of experimenting with an AI tool to create Ghibli Studio-style versions of his photos. In a post on X, he wrote, "I have now been absorbed into the Ghibli craze! The images were provided by my supporters and admirers. It turns out I didn’t know much about Ghibli until today, but let’s just say I’ve been spirited away by this new discovery!"
In the meantime, AI-created images have become an overwhelming sensation online, filling social media platforms with depictions resembling those from Studio Ghibli films. By utilizing this AI technology, individuals can convert their ideas into visual artworks through the Text to Image function.
