In his sermon during the Eid-Ul-Fitr celebration last Sunday at a mosque in Alajo, Accra, Imam Sheikh Haruna Yahaya emphasized the importance of respecting women, stating that they are divine special creations as per his belief.

He stated that women raise children who develop into valuable members of society. These children may turn out to be either positive or negative influences, based on the environment in which they mature.

Men should ensure they properly look after their wives to enable them to carry out their duties seamlessly, he emphasized.

Imam Haruna emphasized that everyone who participated in the Ramadan fast and concluded it with a celebration ought to feel particularly thankful to God, as many others did not receive this same blessing from their Creator.

For the first time since these occasions were announced as holidays, this year's Eid lasted for two consecutive days.

In central Accra, as has been tradition for around a hundred years, Muslims from areas like Cowlane, Zongolozania, and Tudu gathered behind what is now known as Accra Technical University to saddle up their horses for a festive parade through the streets.

It was a vibrant display of colors as every tribal leader or chieftain brought along members of their respective clans.

The recreation of a tradition deeply rooted in the city’s heritage featured Chief Abdul Rashid Brimah guiding the Yoruba group, an envoy from the English family directing the Hausa contingent, with someone representing the Danbaki clan overseeing the Fula participants.

Even though the primary Eid congregation prayers took place at Independence Square on Monday, many chose to gather and worship at different sites throughout the city and other regions of the nation on Sunday.
