Police Mourn Officer Who Died While Watching Champions League Final in Cagliari

The Cross River State branch of the Nigerian Police Force expressed their sorrow over the passing of Inspector Stephen Enang on Tuesday night as he was observing the UEFA Champions League game between Arsenal and Real Madrid at a football viewing center in Calabar.

Irene Ugbo, the Police Public Relations Officer, verified Enang's demise during a phone call with The PUNCH correspondent on Wednesday.

Ugbo recounted that Inspector Enang, an ardent supporter of Arsenal, was assigned to the Akim Police Division located on IBB Way in Calabar until he passed away.

She stated, "In fact, he headed off to see a football game at 9:00. During the match, his favorite team scored, causing him to leap with joy in celebration."

Based on accounts from witnesses, following his jump and fall, they were unsure of what transpired. When they finally realized the situation and hurriedly took him to the police dispensary, he had been pronounced deceased.

"It’s indeed a very sorrowful situation. We are urging our male counterparts to undergo regular examinations. Our bodies aren’t like firewood. Regardless of your desire to demonstrate bravery, make sure to keep getting checked regularly. It’s truly an unfortunate occurrence," she remarked.

It was reported that Inspector Enang frequently visited the football viewing center situated on Abang-Asang Street in the Calabar Municipal Local Government Area of Cross River State, which is where the incident occurred.

It was also mentioned that he didn't show any signs of illness prior to the match and got caught up in the excitement during Arsenal’s first, second, and third goals.
