Police Recover Three Headless Bodies from Ondo River; Investigation Underway (International Edition)

The Ondo State Police Command has stated that the three decapitated bodies discovered floating in the river between Ore and Odigbo communities on Sunday were probably brought there either by unknown persons from another state or due to the river's strong currents.

Mr. Olayinka Alayande, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, stated that their stance was supported by the circumstance that ever since the incident was reported at the police station, no one has stepped forward to claim the unidentified bodies or report anyone as missing.

Nevertheless, he pointed out that the decapitated bodies had been removed and transferred to the mortuary of the State General Hospital in Ore.

Regarding the incident, the Ondo Police Public Relations Officer stated, "I can verify for you that approximately three corpses were found in the river located in Odigbo. As soon as this was reported to the Ore Division, the DPO from that area dispatched an investigator to the location where these three bodies were discovered."

He mentioned that community leaders and stakeholders were called upon to assist in identifying the victims; however, so far, nobody has provided any relevant details.

He stated, "Nonetheless, the DPO called together the community leaders along with representatives from every interested group to facilitate the identification of the remains. Additionally, he instructed anyone possessing knowledge regarding the identity of the deceased to proceed to the hospital for verification. However, up until now, no one has come forward to claim any of the bodies."

It is thought that these bodies were transported there and discarded at that location by unidentified individuals. Therefore, we conclude that this incident didn’t occur locally. We think the remains aren’t originally from this state. Nevertheless, they ended up being deposited in that river. It’s possible though that the river currents carried them to where they were found.

In response to the event, a nearby youth organizer, who introduced himself only as Shileola, characterized the circumstances as terrifying.

"I was stunned when I initially learned about it via telephone. I hurried to the location, aiming to recognize the victims by their attire or any other method, yet all attempts were unsuccessful," he said.

Communities under the jurisdiction of the local government have been gripped with fear after finding three decapitated bodies in the river located between Ore and Odigbo communities.

The remains were found in the river on Sunday by locals who alerted authorities about the situation.

The position of the bodies in the river raised suspicion that they may have been killed for ritual purposes before being dumped.
