Pro-Polisario Media Falsely Claims Moroccan Drone Attacks: International Edition (English)
Pro-Polisario and state-aligned Algerian media outlets have initiated yet another misinformation campaign targeting Morocco. They are disseminating an image of what they claim is a damaged military drone belonging to the Moroccan Air Force, although this assertion appears baseless.
On Tuesday, these sources claimed that the drone had been brought down in northern Mali. Nevertheless, fact-checkers have verified that the aircraft involved was part of the Malian Air Force and fell victim to fighting with various local militant organizations, such as the Azawad Movement.
This recent disinformation campaign emerges against the backdrop of Morocco’s increasing diplomatic and strategic achievements, notably regarding the Sahara dispute. Analysts view these false narratives as frantic efforts by opposition groups to counteract the kingdom's escalating prominence within both regional and global spheres.
Repeated attempts to spread such fake news reveal the disarray among Morocco’s adversaries, who struggle to counter the Kingdom’s expanding military presence, developmental achievements, and diplomatic victories.
Nevertheless, in this digital era—where fact-checking resources are readily available—these misleading strategies are quickly exposed, revealing those behind them to public examination.
