South Africa's Bold Plan: 10 Million Trees Planted by 2030
On April 9, 2025, Addis Ababa—Deputy Minister for Forestry, Fisheries, and Environmental Affairs, Bernice Swarts, initiated the "One Employee One Tree" program in Pretoria.
The initiative seeks to plant 10 million trees by 2030. This information was shared by Pretoria News, which collaborates with TV BRICS.
This effort also seeks to relaunch the Enhanced National Greening Program, focusing on planting 1 million trees within a single day in September when Arboriculture Month is observed.
The intention is to plant trees in various public areas including schools, hospitals, churches, and police stations.
The ministry additionally intends to engage community organizations, businesses, and other governmental departments in this initiative.
The initiative aims to utilize the G20 working group focused on environmental and climate sustainability to involve global leaders in tree-planting activities during their gatherings and at the G20 summit scheduled for South Africa later this year.
