Lola Young Heads Nominations for Top Songwriting Honors
Pop artist Lola Young heads the list of nominees for this year’s esteemed Ivor Novello Awards, followed closely by artists like Charli XCX, Ghetts, and Jade.
Young has received three nominations, with "Messy" being recognized for Best Song Musically and Lyrically after spending an entire month atop the UK charts earlier this year as her breakout hit.
She has made it to the final round for the best album award, competing with Charli XCX's 'Brat,' which gained massive popularity over the past summer.
The Ivor Novello Awards are coveted in the UK music industry because they specifically celebrate songwriting.
Charli, rapper Ghetts, and singer Raye each have two nominations apiece, just like Young’s collaborator Conor Dickinson.
Other contenders include Fontaines DC, Harry Styles, Laura Marling, Bashy and Pa Salieu.
The former member of Little Mix, Jade, has received a nomination for best contemporary song for her debut solo track, "Angel of My Dreams."
Forty years following its debut, Wham!'s "Last Christmas" has been shortlisted for the accolade of most-performed composition, determined by broadcast frequency.
The announcement of the winners will take place during a ceremony in London on May 22nd.
The judges have already declared that U2 will receive the title of Academy Fellows, which represents The Ivors' most prestigious honorific award.
